Healthy Sexuality and Intimacy Group for Men

Because most of us have never asked the question: Is there a difference between intimacy and intercourse? Let alone begin to contemplate what is considered “healthy” sexuality for me.
Why A Healthy Sex Group for Men?
I sometimes wish someone had asked me the question at age 14, 15 or 16: “Eric, do you think there is a difference between intercourse and intimacy?” Merely prompting me to consider the question would have saved me a great deal of pain and suffering.
Only 38 States and the District of Columbia currently mandate Sexual Education and/or HIV Education. Only 17 states require program content to be “medically accurate,” which varies by state. Only 10 states require sex education programs that are appropriate for a student’s cultural background, which is not biased on race, sex, or ethnicity. And we wonder why we have so many problems around sexuality.
“Recovery” from all forms of addictions, including process disorders requires dedicated, sustained effort for years, perhaps a lifetime. Recovery from all forms of addictive, compulsive, or out of control sexual behavior in its many forms is analogous to an eating disorder. The goal is not to give up eating or sex — the goal is to develop a “healthy” relationship with food and sex. This requires an enormous amount of accountability.
The key is to find one’s “Authentic Sexual Self,” which is as distinct as a fingerprint and will look different for each individual.
This group is appropriate for any male identified who has a solid recovery base, ideally in therapy but not a pre-requisite, who seeks to authentically look at what is considered healthy sexuality and intimacy for them.
We will discuss both the similarities and differences between intimacy and intercourse and about finding one’s “Authentic Sexual Self.”
This will be a closed group, limited to 12 male identified, ages 18 and up. We are offering a no obligation 20-minute pre-screening for appropriateness of fit. This will be a SEX POSITIVE group and will focus not only on what is considered “unhealthy,” but also what is considered “healthy” for each man. We will work together through the Sexual Reflections: A Workbook for Designing and Celebrating Your Sexual Health Plan by Dr. Alexandra Katehakis.
